I had an email conversation with a rep from Vermont Progressive Party. Wanted to share that conversation with everyone here.
Me:
I have seen dozens of "national" Progressive Party groups & websites, but none are registered with FEC. Is PPOF associated with you? Is there any national committee or steering committee working to form a cohesive body of affiliated state parties?
VTPP:
Hi Roger,
I’m the Chair of the VPP’s National Outreach Committee, and one of the leaders behind the National Progressive Party, which is working towards a cohesive body of affiliated state parties. The PPOF is a non-connected federal PAC and as such we do not coordinate directly with them. We are trying to bring the compatible efforts together under one roof, but it takes time to build something of this scale. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Nick
Me:
Thank you, Nick, for replying so quickly.
I've been involved with a similar group myself (you may have seen our Twitter activity, @progressivepnc). Unfortunately, due to my lack of connections, poor social media skills, & lack of funding to host a professionally presented website... our efforts can be described as lackluster, at best.
Like you, our intent is to coalesce various progressively-aligned groups into a singular national organization. Democratic Socialists, Greens, Social Dems, Left-Libertarians, & Eisenhower Republicans fighting together under the Progressive label.
In an effort to appeal to the largest coalition of resisters, we've chosen to market/present ourselves as the spiritual successor to TR's original Bull Moose party.
Given that you are already established, it would be more effective if we joined with you. To make a long story short: what can I, and our group, do to help?
I can't speak for everyone in our group, but for myself, I want to be more directly involved--not just phone banking, but to be in at "ground zero".
I can provide a resumé if necessary. I'm a resident of Oklahoma City (OK-5); a 9-year USAF veteran with 8 years of Operations Mgt experience, 5 yrs in the private Customer Service industry.
My direct political experience is limited, but I have worked with the Libertarian Party, in the past, as well as volunteering with the Ron Paul, Gary Johnson, & Bernie Sanders campaigns over the years.
I genuinely believe that I can be helpful to you & the movement.
With high hopes,
Roger Girtman
VTPP:
Thanks Roger,
Very appreciative of your work! What kind of following or reach does your current group have – does it go beyond the Twitter account?
Our first step nationally has been to onboard regional organizers, but in some cases we’ve started applicants at the state level (depending on the region/states, etc.). It would be great if you started by filling out this brief application:
nationalprogressiveparty.org/opportunities
Gabi, CC’d on our exchange, has been interviewing candidates for this position and more. I’m sure she would be glad to talk to you. This is the ground floor, and we’re really glad to have you be a part of building this.

Me:
Nick,
In three weeks, we have successfully reached out to about 3 dozen individuals (including 4 ballot-qualified candidates) who have expressed interest & willingness to help, but only 10 (incl. 1 candidate) actively participating in outreach & organizing discussions.
We are primarily on Twitter, but also have a FB page & a bulletin board & Discord server. The forum was set up to facilitate discussion across time zones. Little did I know (showing my age, lol) that forums aren't very popular anymore.
I will apply later today, and share this conversation with the rest of the group to give them the opportunity to apply as well.

VTPP:
Candidates are GREAT! That’s the lifeblood of why we’re here. Gabi will get you plugged in. Maybe you or someone from your group would make a great OK state organizer. It’s a lot of chaos and momentum right now, so having more points of contact will really help us with our growing pains.
